I’m 21, I love to tinker and build all kinds of things. If I’m playing with electronics or my laser engraver, I am probably outside working on my Car!
My Name is Ross Baer, Junior Robotics Engineering Student at Widener University
Hello, as you know my name is Ross Baer, I’m from Wyndmoor PA, a small suburb of Philadelphia. I am current a Robotics engineering student at widener university in Chester Pa. Thorough my whole life Ive always been the one to sit for hours and play with legos, or take thing apart and see how they work. In middle school during a Lego Mind storm day camp is when i really found my passion for robotics. Then in High School, I joined the Robotics FTC club and quickly moved up the ranks to be design and electrical lead in my junior year. Finally in my Senior year I was appointed being Captain of our 9685. After High-School I enrolled at Widener University for Robotics Engineering to follow my passion of creating robotics systems. When COVID-19 rupsured my freshman year I found a way to continiune growing and learning at a local Non-Profit Model Railroad. At Rockledge Model RailRoad Museam I worked on a advanced digital stationary decorded to allow for wireless integration from the layout to control turnouts. This involved rapid prototyping of electronics and software, alogn with custom PCB manufactiring and chip intration. On top of this in December of 2020, I decided to start my own buisness, a ETSY store called BaerEmber! Within the First year I was able to reach 110 Sales and over $22,000 in gross revenue with a take away after expensive and taxes of over $13,000. I continue to push my self to learn new things and to expand my horizons. I love to meet people and learn about their work and how I can implement it in my own work!
What Can I Bring to the Table
What You Do: Design! I love 3D modeling and designing mechanical systems or objects needed for a prototype. Furthermore I love to draw and build schematics. Give me a task to design an I’ll be sure to knock your socks off! I am most comfortable with Inventor or Illustrator but can figure out other software if asked to do so. Don’t hesitate to ask!
What You Do: Coding! While I am not the worlds best coder nor a supper amazing coder. I try and understand and learn all the coding knowledge I can as there are always fast and more efficient was of completing a task. If handed unfamiliar code I can decode the process and have a general idea of how it functions. I love to take on challenges and learn new languages
What You Do Fabrication! For Many years I have been building anything and everything i can think of. I have experience with almost all hand held tool, along with tons or experience with 3d printing and laser cutting. I like to think of my self as a soldering pro! Surface mount soldering included. I also have woodworking and PCB design experience
What You Do: Learning! The biggest difference between a regular engineer and the best engineer is the best engineer is willing to always learn. I love to ask questions and ask people to teach me or give me guidance when I am unable to figure out a solution. I know I don’t know any where close to enough, and I never will. I will continue to learn from everyone and anyone who will help.
Add Your Past Experiences
Owner- Laser Engraved Product store
(2020 – present)
I established my own laser engraved product store using ETSY. Store name was called BaerEmber, in the first year of sales I had over 100+ $200 sales. this was part time while I focused mostly on school work.
Volunteer – Electrical Lead & Electronics development lead – Rockledge Model Railroad Museum
(2019 – Present)
I am currently volunteering about 4-5 hours a week at Rockledge model railroad museum. I am currently the acting head of the electrical department and over see most of the electrical project along with requesting and fulfilling good needed. On top of that I am currently leading the Electronic elopement to create custom system to make our layout more advance and add more expansive functionality
Robotics FTC team Captain
(2017 – 2019 I was elected captain of the Robotics FTC team in junior year. Where I led the team to design, fabricate, and test a robot to participate in competitions. I also managed and meditated the difference team within to ensure that all groups were operating at full capacities. Furthermore my biggest role as captain was ensuring that all members feel like they belonged and enjoyed working on robotics. It was also my personal policy that everyone had to be willing to learn about each team, such as code , design, outreach, and finical. Everyone has something to learn and will help the team operate more efficiently and expand their knowledge!
